I Look

 

I Look

                    I look in the mirror and I see

                    Scars

                    I see trails etched on the skin of a girl that used to be

                    I see smiles that have stretched over so many years

                        and days and minutes ticking away her destiny

                    I see heartache and happiness

                    I see reality

                    I look to the shadow and I see

                    Nothingness filling empty space

                    I see words that never found their place

                    I see stories untold and memories still meant to unfold

                    I see yesterday

                    I see tomorrow

                    I see so much time borrowed

                    I look to the sky and I see

                    Hope and magic and majesty

                    I see dawn and dusk and every lull of life in between

                    I see promise and fire and breezes of blue that touch the dancing part of me

                    I see diamonds waiting to fall

                    I see around, and beyond and through it all

                    I look to my children and I see

                    Some of the very best parts of me

                    I see the people I'd always hoped that I would be

                    I see arms that stretch out and search the world for me

                    I see the eyes that are mirrors

                        that reflect my reality

                    I look inside and I see

                    A sparrow still waiting to learn to fly

                    Away from the mirror

                    Beyond the shadows

                    Toward the sky
