Not Her For Long
I will not be her for long
I will feel her skin
Her hair
Those chills that rake her heart
Those fires that flame from within
I will not race for her dreams
Brace for her failures
Leave her trace on souls
On trinkets
On living things
I will not know her desires
Her fantasies
Her place in the scheme of longing and belonging
Of finding
Of wanting
I will not see her face
Her eyes
Her lips that kissed
And smiled
And laughed
And sinned
I will not turn to her fears
Lose her mind in mysteries
Cling with strength to her love things
I will not know her as I know her
Or be her
Or believe in her
So ...
While I am her
I will build her bridges
Carry her burdens
Pay her prices
Turn her tears to diamonds
Her smiles to strangers
Her heart to high mountains
I will hold her wings wide to the sky
And she will fly
This bird of mine
Until she is no longer ... I
